Biographical account on some of the Early Settlers of
Buchanan County, Virginia and surrounding areas.
Pilgrim Knob, Hale Creek, Dwight, Slate Creek and Spruce Pine.

So far we have been able to trace our heritage
back to 1774 with Ephrim Osborne Sr, the Great
Grandfather of Ruel P. Osborne, who was born
1821 the fouth child, with seven siblings to Benjamin
Harrison Osborne and Susannah Baker, from Russell
Co, Va.

He was a frontierman who served his country. His
Great Grand-father Enoch Osborne Sr, served
during the Revolutionary War.He was an officer in the
Grayson Rifles from Grayson Co, Va. Along with his
son Jonathon Osborne at the Battle of Point Pleasant
in 1774.

Ephiam was also an acquaintance of the well-known
explorer Christopher Gist, who was the first white man
to tread the mountains of Buchanan County, Virginia.

Ruel's grand-parents were Solomon Osborne and
Hannah Bowling. A family historian traces the Bowling's
heritage back to the Rolfe Family. Robert Bowling
married Jane Rolfe 1675 in Virginia. Jane Rolfe was the
grand-daughter of John Rolfe and Pocahontas,a Powhatan
Indain princess who saved the life of Captain John Smith
of Jamestown. This would make Ruel the 5th granson of Pocahontas.
